This is Ryan. He is a Smallmouth Bass and is my older, braver brother. As you can see by the bite out of his tail, he is adventurous, an agile swimmer and successful at fast getaways.

He is always busy buzzing around, getting involved in projects and helping out whenever he can.

When he is not doing community work, Ryan is the leader of the neighbourhood Smallmouth Bass fleet. As their leader, he organizes trips to different exciting parts of the river. He loves exploring and meeting other fish and creatures that call the Great River home.

Small Mouth Bass

Not all Small Mouth Bass look the same. In clear water their markings are very visible and dark in colour. In murky water their markings are blurry to help blend into the surroundings. They have stripped markings down their bodies.

  • ·      They are usually found near shoals or submerged logs and in moderately shallow rocky and sandy areas.

  • ·      Like water with currents.

  • ·      Very curious. Approach divers and will join them during the dive.  Divers refer to them as “dive guides”.

  • ·      They have a jointed dorsal fin that appears as one.
